Multiple 911 reports of a irritating chemical odor inside of an apartment building

 February 18, 2018

On Saturday morning, 02/17. the Hawthorne Fire Department, Police, EMS and Passaic County HazMat responded to multiple 911 reports of a irritating chemical odor inside of an apartment building located at 55 Westervelt Avenue. The odor was traced to a contractor’s use of a chemical product that caused combustible fumes inside of the structure. Hawthorne EMS evaluated two (2) residents who complained of illness; both refused ambulance transportation to a local hospital. Hawthorne Fire Department personnel from Companies 2 & 3 assisted in ventilating the building.
