At 4:45 pm the Department was dispatched to a reported fire on the second floor of a three family home located at 139 Prescott Ave. Upon arrival police units reported smoke showing from the “D” side of the building second and third floors. Hawthorne Chief Speranza arrived and after a quick assessment of the incident and called a “working fire”, heavy fire was noted on the second floor “D” side.
A second alarm was transmitted for coverage provided by North Haldeon, Wyckoff and Glen Rock as well as a “Fast Team” to the scene from neighboring Prospect park FD.
Interior attack was made by Hawthorne Engine Four to the fire floor, an additional line was stretched to the third floor by members of Engine One.
Members of Engine Three and Resue Five gained access to the first floor and basement, Tower Two prepared the building for ventilation, ladder access and egress. The fire was quickly knocked down and the fire was called under control in 21 minutes. Extensive damage was sustained to the second floor and significant smoke damage throughout with minor water damage to the first floor and basement.
The department remained on scene assisting salavage and fire investigation for two hours before turning over the building to the owner for security of the building.
