12/16/20 Shortly after 1230pm today the fire department was dispatched to 26 Westervelt Ave for a possible house fire. Chief Speranza arrived and reported a 3 story wood frame with heavy fire on the top floor with exposure problems. A 2nd alarm was quickly transmitted and brought mutual aid from Wyckoff and Prospect Park to the scene. Due to the heavy volume of fire and exposure problems crews initially knocked down the fire from the exterior with a deck gun and 2.5” line from Engine 3. Another line was stretched to protect the exposure while another line was stretched to the 3rd floor through the rear to make an interior attack on the fire. Crews had the fire under control on about an hour but worked for over 2 hours to extinguish hot spots. Thank you to our PD, EMS, Ladies Auxiliary, and our mutual aid that assisted on scene and stood by for us. (Photo credit to BNN)
